Educational Programs
PVAS has a number of education programs, and is always looking to expand services. Below is a brief summary of our current programs.
For the Classroom
Bird Basics - Docent Program & Classroom Presentations
Volunteer docents provide classroom presentations to elementary school children, to generate excitement in learning about birds and their habitats.Audubon Adventures - Newspaper Subscriptions for Elementary School Classes
Adventures teaches 4th-6th grade students about a variety of subjects related to birds, wildlife and habitat. PVAS helps local teachers with annual subscriptions to Adventures.Owl Pellet Program - Free Owl Pellets for Classes
Owl pellets teach children about owls, their diet and habitat, through hands-on laboratory experience. PVAS has owl pellets available for teachers in the area.
For Service Group Meetings
Slide Programs - Identification, Conservation, etc. of Local Birds
Geared to adults and tailored to the local area. This program shows photos of the common local birds and discusses conservation issues and techniques.
For Local Wildarea Parks
Customized Birdlists & Identification Charts - Local southern California area bird interpretive materials for non-profit, public use wildlands
With thanks to our volunteers and help from our Hank Childs & Ray Wells Memorial Fund, we are now able to develop lists & species ID charts focused on specific hapitats and needs.
